Programs/Activities

ENRICHMENT

Enrichment activities are a vital part of creating well-rounded students. The team at River Road/El Camino del Río believes that all students deserve to participate in PE, art, library, and computers regularly. Currently, the district provides music and PE instruction for 9 weeks of the year.
Health education is provided in 6-week blocks and is taught by a nutrition expert through out grant with OSU’s Extension Services. Student have access to our school library on a regular basis. A large selection of books, including both Spanish and English titles, are available for checkout.
Our parent group raises money to provide artists in residence at different times throughout the year. Our goal is to ensure that students receive comprehensive art instruction.

BREAKFAST AND SNACK
All students receive a free breakfast every morning in the cafeteria. Fresh fruits and vegetables are also provided for snack daily. Specialized menu options for children on vegan, vegetarian and other diets are always available.

FAMILY NIGHTS
Families are invited to participate in our numerous family night events. We have BBQs, movie nights, family dances, literacy nights, math nights, and a school carnival. We believe partnerships between schools and families are essential to the success of our students.

FIELD TRIPS
Students at River Road/El Camino del Río Elementary participate in a number of field trips each year. Students may visit Detering Orchards, the Oregon Zoo, U of O, or participate in the Farm to School program.

PARENT GROUP
River Road/El Camino del Río is grateful to have a highly involved and active parent group. Our parent club meets monthly to discuss fundraising efforts and other school events. In addition, Parent Group provides input on school decisions and gives feedback on school issues and concerns. In these challenging times, our Parent Group works hard to provide funds to classroom teachers for supplies and helps pay for field trips throughout the year.

LEGO ROBOTICS
Fourth and Fifth graders who love building things, using computers, and working together will love Lego Robotics! This fun after school club offers student a unique opportunity to combine a love of science with real-world application of problem solving and technology.

studentKINDERGARTEN
For this school year, River Road/El Camino del Río will offer three full day kindergarten classes. Students are in school 8:20-2:40. Students are in Spanish language immersion 70% of their day and 30% in English in kindergarten. Lessons in math, science, social studies, and social skills alternate between Spanish and English so that students begin to learn their new language. Students receive customized instruction to help them make solid gains in Spanish and English literacy over the course of the year.

TAG
What better way to challenge a TAG student than to offer them the opportunity to become bilingual? The staff at River Road/El Camino del Río prides themselves on the rigor of the dual immersion program. TAG students can expect to be challenged by our program and supported in their learning.
